Buying a Suppressor in 3 Easy Steps

Regardless of what you may have heard, buying a suppressor is simple.

  1. Start by adding a suppressor to your cart on HighbyOutdoors.com. Once at checkout you’ll be able to select your local dealer in our FFL (Federal Firearms Licensed) Finder so that we have a location to transfer your suppressor to. Keep in mind that the FFL has to also be an SOT, which means they pay the Special Occupational Tax that allows them to transfer National Firearms Act regulated firearms. Simply select your preferred dealer and we will make sure they are able to make the transfer. If not, we will contact you with another local dealer that can.

  2. Once the suppressor arrives at your local FFL dealer, they will contact you to fill out the paperwork. You’ll need to fill out the ATF Form 4 and include the following: passport photos, fingerprint cards, and payment for $200. You will mail two copies to the ATF and one to your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO).

  3. Now the hard part…waiting for the government to lick a stamp. Wait times change, but it currently takes about 6-9 months. Once the ATF has approved your Form 4 they will return it with your Tax Stamp to your FFL dealer. The dealer will call you when they receive the approved Form 4. When you go to pick up your suppressor, you will fill out a 4473 (like any other firearm purchase).
